Where is the Water?

Water is one of the most important things on earth. Without water, there is no life. We can only survive for a few days without a source of water. It is no wonder that the possibility of a drought is a cause for great concern. Wouldn’t it be marvellous to find a source of water that never runs out?

In the Bible we see that the Triune God is flowing Himself out as a fountain, as a spring, and as a river in order to reach man. God the Father is the source of life (Jeremiah 2:13; Psalms 36:9). God the Son is the embodiment of life (John 1:4; 11:25). God the Spirit is the flow of life that reaches man (John 7:37-39; Revelation 22:1). The desire of God throughout the ages has always been to supply man with Himself as life.

Not only does God want to give Himself to us as living water, He also wants to install Himself as the source of water into our being. In our experience, many things cause us to be dry (John 4:13). However, the Lord Jesus said, “The water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water gushing up [springing up] into eternal life” (John 4:14b).

The flow of the Triune God is into eternal life, meaning that the destination of this flow is the New Jerusalem, the totality of the eternal life. In the New Jerusalem, God as the river of water of life flows into His chosen people for eternity (Revelation 22:1). He never runs dry.

The way to receive God as life is to drink of the Spirit by calling on the name of the Lord continually (1 Corinthians 12:13). This is to draw water with joy from the springs of salvation (Isaiah 12:3-4). When we receive the Lord by believing into Him, rivers of living water flow out of our innermost being (John 7:37-39). Simply open your mouth to call on His name:

“Oh Lord Jesus!
You are the Fountain that never runs dry.
Thank You for reaching me.
Fill me and flow out of me as rivers of living water.”

Keep me drinking from this inexhaustible fountain that never runs dry. Only You, Lord Jesus can quench all my thirst. All the peoples thirst. Keep drinking to stay alive in the flowing Triune God. Thank You Lord, You’re inexhaustible. Diamond, coal, tin, gold mines even, run out. But you never. Hallelujah.
